42 Companies Awarded FiT Projects, To Catalyse RM4.3 Bln In Investments

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- A total of 42 companies have been successfully awarded projects under the 2026 Feed-in Tariff (FiT) mechanism, with the projects expected to catalyse approximately RM4.3 billion in total investments.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said these comprise 16 biogas projects, 11 biomass projects and 15 small hydropower projects with a total approved capacity of 331.355 megawatts.

“It will generate around RM617 million in demand for locally manufactured gas engines and boilers, and create approximately 7,738 indirect employment opportunities,” he said in his speech at the 7th International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES 2026).

The biogas projects have a total approved capacity of 26.185 megawatts, while biomass projects account for 135.94 megawatts and hydropower projects 169.23 megawatts.

He said the desired outcome is to increase renewable energy, strengthen domestic supply chains, attract greater investment and generate tangible economic value for the country.

Akmal Nasrullah said in total, the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia has received 48 applications for biogas, biomass and small hydropower resources, representing a combined capacity of 370.480 megawatts.

In a press conference, he said the selection took into account factors including site suitability, tariff rates offered and technical considerations, as well as the availability of the ecosystem required to support all the projects.

“Our estimated target for them to be in the system by 2029 to 2030,” he added.
