Bursa Malaysia Opens Higher On Bargain Hunting

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia opened higher on bargain hunting after a recent slip, despite the cue from negative Wall Street.
At 9.12 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) added 2.04 points to 1,737.41 from Monday’s close of 1,735.37.
The benchmark index opened 0.04 of a point higher at 1,735.41.
On the broader market, gainers outpaced losers 217 to 200, while 335 counters were unchanged, 2,023 untraded and 13 suspended.
Turnover stood at 227.28 million shares valued at RM138.70 million.
In a note today, Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd said Wall Street ended lower overnight as expectations for a US-Iran deal faded, renewing concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supplies.
“Diminishing hopes for a resolution fuelled a rally in energy prices, with Brent crude surging to almost US$88.00 per barrel,” it said.
Wall Street ended lower, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) slipping 0.11 per cent to 53,975.98. The S&P 500 edged down 0.06 per cent to 7,753.11, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.32 per cent to 26,605.36.
For today, Rakuten Trade expects the FBM KLCI to trade within the 1,730-1,740 range while maintaining a cautiously positive bias.
Among the heavyweights, IHH Healthcare gained 11 sen to RM8.46, while Public Bank and CIMB Group both eased one sen to RM5.17 and RM7.91, respectively. Tenaga Nasional eased four sen to RM14.36, while Maybank was flat at RM10.66.
On the most active list, Dagang NeXchange eased half a sen to 49.5 sen, TWL Holdings added half a sen to 2.5 sen, Zetrix AI was flat at 70.5 sen, AMS Advanced Material gained three sen to 49 sen, while NationGate Holdings was unchanged at RM1.54.
Among the top gainers, Allianz Malaysia advanced 20 sen to RM22.40, while Sunway Construction and IHH Healthcare both added 11 sen to RM8.31 and RM8.46, respectively. YTL Power International gained nine sen to RM4.77, and Gamuda rose eight sen to RM4.52.
As for the top losers, Petronas Gas and Hong Leong Industries both fell 10 sen to RM17.26 and RM17.78, respectively. SD Guthrie slipped eight sen to RM6.75, Ajinomoto Malaysia eased six sen to RM18.94, and Pjbumi lost five sen to RM3.80.
Among the broader indices, the FBM Emas Index rose 15.94 points to 12,884.41, the FBM Top 100 Index gained 16.30 points to 12,700.16, the FBM Mid 70 Index advanced 29.57 points to 18,402.95, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index climbed 23.49 points to 12,739.00, while the FBM ACE Index fell 12.18 points to 5,144.14.
By sector, the Energy Index rose 4.40 points to 770.04, and the Industrial Products and Services Index gained 0.46 of a point to 188.62, while the Financial Services Index fell 12.68 points to 20,406.78 and the Plantation Index declined 21.96 points to 9,498.53.
