Local Institutions Extend Net Buying Streak To Two Consecutive Weeks – MBSB IB

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- Local institutions extended their net buying streak on Bursa Malaysia to two consecutive weeks, recording net inflows of RM451.1 million last week, MBSB Investment Bank Bhd (MBSB IB) said.

In its weekly Fund Flow Report for the week ended Aug 7, 2026, the investment bank said the average daily trading volume (ADTV) saw a broad-based increase; retailers’ trading volume was up by 35.4 per cent and that of local institutions by 24.1 per cent, while foreign institutions’ trading volume was down by 5.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, the retailers extended their two-week streak of net selling, recording net outflows of RM13.8 million.

In the same week, the foreign institutions returned to net selling after net buying in the previous week, recording RM437.3 million in net outflows

“Foreign institutions were net buyers on one out of five trading days during the week, with the only inflow recorded on Wednesday (RM53.7 million),” it said.

However, net outflows were recorded on Friday (RM238.0 million), followed by Thursday (RM175.3 million), Monday (RM57.9 million) and Tuesday (RM19.8 million), with Friday registering the largest daily net selling,” it said.

It stated that the top three sectors that recorded net inflows from foreign institutions were transportation and logistics (RM97.6 million), construction (RM48.1 million) and property (RM5.8 million).

“The top three sectors that recorded net foreign outflows were financial services (RM173.5 million), industrial products and services (RM115.2 million) and plantation (RM92.2 million),” it noted. 

Across the eight Asian markets MBSB IB monitors, foreign investors extended their net selling streak to seven consecutive weeks, with total net foreign outflows amounting to US$3.64 billion.

Net outflows were led by South Korea, followed by Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines, while net inflows were led by India, followed by Taiwan, Vietnam and Indonesia.
