Selangor Targets RM14,500 Median Household Income Under RS-2
SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government is targeting to raise the state’s median monthly household income to RM14,500 and reduce the unemployment rate to 2.2 per cent under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2).
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the latest data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) showed Selangor had already exceeded the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) target, with median monthly household income reaching RM10,726 compared with the targeted RM9,290.
He said among the initiatives planned to achieve the new target is the formalisation of the care economy, involving informal workers providing childcare and elderly care services without adequate guidance and support.
“This includes increasing opportunities for and participation of women in the economy, particularly mothers returning to the workforce after childbirth through the Career Comeback Programme.
“The state's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework, led by the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC), will be strengthened and coordinated more proactively through a proposed TVET Corporation to avoid duplication of TVET programmes in the market and ensure the delivery of a high-quality TVET system,” he said while tabling the RS-2 at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Amirudin said the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS) will also be expanded to benefit 200,000 students by 2030 to further improve the academic performance of students from diverse backgrounds.
He said that under RS-2, universities will play a more active role through the establishment of the Selangor University Network Council (SUNC), comprising both public and private institutions, including supporting Universiti Selangor’s (UNISEL) transition into a fully industry-driven university aligned with current market needs.
“To further revitalise the entrepreneurship ecosystem, PLATS will be positioned as the state’s flagship entrepreneurship programme, targeting 150,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across Selangor to receive mentoring, training, digital skills, financial management capabilities and business expansion strategies.
“For the halal industry, capacity-building programmes and Selangor Halal Hub 2.0 will provide SMEs with opportunities to expand into ASEAN markets instead of relying solely on the domestic market,” he said.
