Malaysia's Services Producer Price Index Up 2.9 Pct In 2Q 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s services producer price index (SPPI) increased by 2.9 per cent in the second quarter of 2026 (2Q 2026), up from 2.1 per cent in the previous quarter, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
DOSM said the accommodation and food and beverage service activities index continued its upward trend, rising by 6.4 per cent year-on-year after a 5.7 per cent growth in the first quarter.
“This increase was driven by restaurant and mobile food service activities index (5.8 per cent) and beverage service activities (3.1 per cent),” it said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, the transportation index rose by 5.6 per cent, up from 3.8 per cent in the previous quarter, mainly due to a 17.5 per cent surge in the passenger air transport index.
The education index also recorded an increase of 2.1 per cent, after a growth of 1.9 per cent in the previous quarter, supported by higher education (1.8 per cent) and secondary education (1.7 per cent).
Other indices that registered increases were the arts, entertainment and recreation index and health index, both rising by 1.6 per cent, followed by real estate activities (1.3 per cent) and professional indices (1.0 per cent).
Meanwhile, the information and communication index posted an increase of 0.3 per cent compared to 0.1 per cent in previous quarter due to the data processing, hosting and related activities; web portals (0.8 per cent) and computer programming, consultancy and related activities (0.7 per cent).
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, DOSM said the SPPI increased by 1.1 per cent in 2Q 2026 compared with a 1.4 per cent increase in the previous quarter, contributed by all subsectors.
The transportation subsector increased by 2.0 per cent mainly supported by passenger air transport (11.2 per cent).
“The arts, entertainment and recreation indices also went up by 2.0 per cent, while the accommodation and food and beverage service activities increased by 1.3 per cent due to restaurant and mobile food service activities index (1.3 per cent).
“In addition, other indices that recorded increases were real estate activities (0.6 per cent), education (0.5 per cent), health (0.3 per cent), information and communication (0.2 per cent) and professional (0.1 per cent),” it added.
