Kioxia Unveils AI-Optimised GP1 Series SSDs

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Kioxia Corporation has announced the KIOXIA GP1 Series PCIe 6.0 NVMe solid-state drives (SSDs), the first product in its KIOXIA GP Series of Super High IOPS SSDs, optimised for graphics processing unit (GPU) direct access.

The KIOXIA GP1 Series delivers up to 10 million random read input/output operations per second (IOPS) using KIOXIA XL-FLASH generation 2 flash memory, enabling flash-based memory extension to address the growing performance and memory demands of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

Kioxia in a statement said evaluation samples will be available to select customers by the end of 2026, and the series is being showcased at FMS: Future of Memory and Storage, taking place Aug 4 to 6 in Santa Clara, California.

The SSDs are designed to support emerging AI storage architectures by extending high bandwidth memory (HBM) as a fast flash memory media-based tier, enabling AI systems to access larger datasets at a lower cost than adding more HBM while improving GPU utilisation.

The KIOXIA GP1 Series leverages KIOXIA XL-FLASH generation 2 low-latency, high-performance flash memory to deliver higher IOPS, finer-grained 512-byte data access and lower power consumption per input/output operation than conventional triple-level cell (TLC)-based SSDs.

Kioxia said the architecture is designed to scale from the current 10 million random read IOPS to future generations targeting up to 100 million IOPS.
