Lantronix, Swarmer Partner On AI Drone Compute Platform

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- Lantronix Inc has partnered with drone autonomy software developer Swarmer Inc to develop a customised compute platform for Group 1 unmanned aerial systems (UAS), supporting the deployment of first-person view (FPV) and other small drones for defence programmes in Ukraine, the United States (US) and allied nations.

In a statement, Lantronix said the platform combines its Open-Q 6490CS System-on-Module with Swarmer's combat-tested autonomy software to enhance artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision and autonomous mission capabilities for small, low-cost drones.

Lantronix president and chief executive officer (CEO), Saleel Awsare said the production-ready, National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)-compliant compute platform integrated with Swarmer's combat-tested software would improve drone autonomy and operational performance.

He said the platform would deliver about four times the processing power of existing onboard compute systems to enhance visual navigation, automated target recognition, pixel lock and advanced teaming algorithms.

Meanwhile, Swarmer president and US CEO, Alex Fink said the platform is designed to run AI models on the edge in a compact form factor optimised for Group 1 UAS, adding that it is expected to become a standard compute solution for small unmanned systems.

Founded in 2023, Swarmer has supported more than 100,000 missions in Ukraine since April 2024, with its software deployed across nearly 50 Ukrainian military units operating in electronic warfare and global navigation satellite system (GNSS)-denied environments.

The additional computing capability would support more advanced autonomous operations and allow software-based upgrades, reducing lifecycle complexity for military operators.

Lantronix said the collaboration expands its presence in autonomous defence systems by providing a production-ready, NDAA-compliant platform designed to support long-term deployment across air, ground and maritime unmanned systems while enabling recurring opportunities in the defence autonomy market.

Lantronix is a global provider of edge AI and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions for smart cities, enterprise information technology (IT) and commercial and defence unmanned systems.
