Egg Medical Supports New Radiation Safety Consensus Statement 

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- Egg Medical, a global radiation protection company, has announced its support for a landmark expert consensus statement published in the Journal of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (JSCAI).

According to Egg Medical in a statement, it calls for a shift away from traditional reliance on heavy lead aprons to better protect clinical staff from radiation exposure.

The statement highlights the need to modernise radiation safety practices, particularly as advanced electronic radiation protection devices (ERPDs) become available.

Earlier this year, the SCAI launched its ALARA+ initiative to update interpretations of federal As Low as Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) radiation protection principles.

The Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute chairman and co-author of the consensus statement, Dr Dean Kereiakes said the risks of cancer, cataracts and orthopaedic injuries associated with wearing heavy protective lead aprons should no longer be accepted as inevitable in interventional careers.

He said the multi-society consensus statement represents a mandate that, with the availability of ERPDs such as EggNest Complete, workplace safety is no longer an option, but instead a moral imperative going forward.
