Govt Reaffirms Five Commitments To Strengthen Plantation Sector -- Noraini
KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) -- The government has reaffirmed five commitments that will continue to guide the national agenda for the plantation sector, said Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.
“First, we will continue strengthening sustainability as the foundation of long-term competitiveness, ensuring that economic growth goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility and social inclusion,” she said in her speech at the 11th International Planters Conference 2026 here today.
Second, the government will accelerate innovation by supporting research, digitalisation and the adoption of advanced technologies to improve productivity, efficiency and resilience throughout the value chain, she said.
Third, smallholders and plantation communities will be empowered, and fourth, the government will continue to promote greater value creation by encouraging downstream industries, commercialisation of research, bio-based products and the circular economy, she said.
“This enables our commodities to contribute to higher-value industries and new sources of economic growth.
“Finally, Malaysia will continue to strengthen international cooperation because the future of sustainable plantation agriculture depends on stronger partnerships, greater knowledge sharing and mutual trust among nations,” she said.
Noraini said the government aspires to position Malaysia as a global reference for sustainable plantation agriculture, driven by science, powered by innovation, guided by sustainability, and trusted by the world.
The government will continue to strengthen the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Certification Scheme because it represents the country’s commitment to responsible production, environmental stewardship and social accountability.
