Ajinomoto Malaysia Wins Two Honours At AREA 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 (Bernama) -- Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Bhd (AMB) has secured two accolades at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2026, winning the "Green Leadership" and "Corporate Sustainability Reporting" categories in recognition of its sustainability efforts.
The awards, organised by Enterprise Asia with the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, are among Asia's leading platforms recognising companies for sustainable and responsible business practices.
Since its launch in 2011, AREA has recognised more than 2,000 companies across 19 countries.
In a statement today, the global food seasoning company said the dual recognition reflected AMB's continued commitment to embedding sustainability into its business operations and corporate strategy, with a focus on environmental stewardship, responsible governance and transparent reporting.
Under the "Green Leadership" category, AMB was recognised for advancing decarbonisation and circular economy initiatives.
Since 2018, its Bandar Enstek plant has implemented a range of measures, including green building development, energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy solutions and cleaner fuel alternatives to reduce carbon emissions, the company said.
The initiatives contributed to the plant's receipt of a Gold Green Building Index (GBI) certification in 2024.
AMB said it has also strengthened its environmental performance through renewable energy and waste management initiatives. Its 4.2-megawatt solar photovoltaic system generates about 4,500 megawatt-hours of clean electricity annually, accounting for 24 per cent of the plant's total electricity consumption in the 2025 financial year.
The company said its 4R approach — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover — enabled it to achieve a 92.4 per cent solid waste recycling rate and a 98.4 per cent food loss recovery rate in 2025.
In the "Corporate Sustainability Reporting" category, AMB was recognised for its commitment to transparency, accountability and credible sustainability disclosures.
The company said its reporting framework is guided by four sustainability pillars: fostering ethical business practices, promoting health and well-being, regenerating the environment, and empowering individuals and communities. Its reporting also aligns with Bursa Malaysia's governance requirements and international standards.
AMB said the awards marked another milestone in its sustainability journey.
"Moving forward, AMB remains committed to creating long-term value for all stakeholders while continuing to contribute to community well-being and environmental conservation through sustainable business practices," it said.
Representing AMB at the awards ceremony were AMB senior independent non-executive director Clement Cheong Heng Choy, chief production officer Yong Kum Cheng, senior general manager Ramesh Sadiappan, senior deputy general manager Lee Soon Howe, and senior specialist Nurul Hamizah Abd Halim.
