TAIPEI, June 3 (Bernama) -- Synology Inc today has announced ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 and unveiled the roadmap for the next generation of DiskStation Manager (DSM).
The Taiwan-based data management technology provider said the latest update to ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 expands backup and recovery capabilities across major infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platforms and virtualisation environments, and introduces artificial intelligence (AI)-powered threat detection for proactive cyber-resiliency.
It said ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 advances enterprise data protection from passive resilience to proactive, AI-driven threat detection.
The anomaly detection engine applies machine learning against historical backup versions to flag irregular patterns, including unusual change rates, mass deletions, and entropy spikes, the moment they arise.
“Affected files are automatically quarantined, preventing compromised data from being inadvertently restored.
“It also integrates with third-party antivirus tools to scan backup data for malware, so only clean, verified versions are available for restoration,” it said in a statement.
Synology Data Protection Group executive vice president Jia-Yu Liu said ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 extends protection coverage to major clouds, hypervisors, and software-as-a-service (SaaS) platforms, while introducing AI-driven threat detection that shifts data protection from reactive recovery to proactive defence.
Meanwhile, the company said the DSM roadmap would expand the technology from a storage operating system into an intelligent data platform for governed, on-premises AI workflows.
It said the next-generation DSM would transform data and system metrics into actionable insights without the privacy risks or costs associated with cloud providers.
The new DSM turns existing business data, system logs, and metrics into a private knowledge base that AI agents can act on.
It explained that Synology Office Suite’s AI Assistant provides an immediately deployable way to boost productivity, while Synology’s graphics processing unit (GPU) rack servers and dedicated AI appliances handle local inference without moving data off-site.
“DSM Agent deepens automation by providing a guided experience for system-wide administrative tasks and orchestrating tools and skills into full agentic workflows,” it said.
Synology NAS Group executive vice president Bie-i Chu added that the updated system is built to meet both AI and enterprise demands, enabling private AI workflows with full governance, fleet-scale management, and the security controls information technology (IT) teams need to meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
