KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) -- Pharmaniaga Bhd, through wholly-owned subsidiary Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn Bhd (PLS), has secured a three-year contract valued at RM281.7 million from the Ministry of Health for the supply of human insulin to healthcare facilities nationwide.

In a statement, the pharmaceutical company said the award reflects the group’s established manufacturing capabilities, proven execution track record and continued alignment with national healthcare priorities.

At the same time, it said, the contract strengthens its standing as a key player within the country’s pharmaceutical and healthcare ecosystem.

The company said the contract represents 70 per cent of the total tender volume, underscoring Pharmaniaga’s scale, operational readiness and capacity to support large-volume, nationwide supply requirements.

Pharmaniaga said it also strengthens the group’s recurring revenue base within the public healthcare segment, while further enhancing visibility of earnings over the contract period.

“Importantly, the award reinforces Pharmaniaga’s growing role within the biopharmaceutical segment, particularly in the production and supply of critical chronic disease treatments such as insulin.

“As demand for such therapies continues to rise, the group’s capabilities in this segment position it to capture long-term growth opportunities, while contributing meaningfully to the development of a more resilient domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem,” it said.

Pharmaniaga managing director Datuk Zulkifli Jafar said the group is honoured to contribute to the Health Ministry’s healthcare priorities, while further strengthening its manufacturing and supply chain capabilities in service of the nation.

“This award reflects the strategic direction we have set under Vision ONE30, which focuses on advancing biopharmaceutical capabilities, reinforcing our generics leadership, enhancing logistics excellence and unlocking value from new growth areas to support long-term, sustainable growth,” he said.

He also said that the contract came at a timely juncture, as ongoing geopolitical developments continue to highlight the importance of building a more resilient and self-reliant domestic pharmaceutical ecosystem.

"Strengthening local manufacturing capabilities, particularly for essential and chronic disease treatments such as insulin, will be critical in safeguarding national medicine security and ensuring sustainable access to treatment for the people in the years ahead," Zulkifli added.
