SEDC Has Achieved Major Multi-sector Milestones In Past Three Years, Says Chairman
KUCHING, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) has achieved significant milestones across multiple sectors over the past three years, its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Husain said.
He said renewable energy and hydrogen initiatives progressed substantially through SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd’s green hydrogen advancements and Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd’s autonomous rapid transit (ART) system, which will mark another national first, being powered by clean energy, when operations commence.
“The mega methanol plant in Bintulu, our strategic investment through associate company Sarawak Petchem launched in 2024, stands as a symbol of Sarawak’s industrial strength and our ability to deliver complex projects with excellence,” he said at the SEDC Corporate Dinner 2025, which was graced by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, on Friday.
According to him, SEDC, through its subsidiary Sarawak Metro, is contributing to the state’s hydrogen economy in the transportation sector with the development of the ART system which will be operational soon.
“In tourism and hospitality, we continue to strengthen our footprint through our very own Riverside Majestic Hotel, Grand Margherita Hotel, Damai Lagoon Resort, and Damai Beach Resort. We have also acquired Mulu Marriott Resort and Spa, making SEDC the majority owner of this prestigious property,” he said.
Abdul Aziz said another SEDC subsidiary, Hemisphere Corporation Sdn Bhd, has taken over the management and operations of Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last March, marking another milestone in its efforts to expand its capabilities in the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector.
In agro and livestock sectors, he said, SEDC’s Rosewood Station cross-breeding programme, Carmor Plains supplementation trials and the acquisition of the Coomalie Depot Export Station, all in Australia, enhanced SEDC’s cattle export readiness and overall livestock quality and productivity.
Another subsidiary, PPES Ternak Sdn Bhd, has expanded its value-added meat production by introducing black pepper corned beef as well as new corned beef and lamb variants, while the upcoming “Just Sear by Sarabif” premium pre-cooked frozen products will be available at its Sarabif outlets beginning Dec 15.
On quarry operations, he said SEDC Resources and Permaisara now manage 12 quarries from Samarahan to Miri, ensuring steady supplies of granite, limestone and sandstone that support Sarawak’s accelerating infrastructure development and contribute consistent revenue to the SEDC Group.
Abdul Aziz said the accomplishments reflect the corporation’s transformation into a high-performing and future-ready organisation.
“Our goal remains clear: to transform SEDC into a high-performing, agile and future-ready organisation that delivers pacesetting performances and stands as the pride and crown jewel of Sarawak,” he added.
